Description

COURSE OBJECTIVE

  • Understand the roles and responsibilities of the DCT Commander and Leader.
  • Understand and know how to response during gas release, using gas detector and SCBA.
  • Effectively and safely operate various basic Fire Fighting equipment.
  • Extinguish contained, running and pressure fed liquid hydrocarbon fires using the correct techniques and appropriate media.
  • Use water application techniques to contain and control fires involving gas and liquid hydrocarbons.
  • Apply basic fire-fighting strategy and tactics.
  • Apply the basic principles of dealing with fires involving pressure vessels.
  • Prepare an SCBA for wearing and don it correctly.
  • Communication effectiveness.
  • Understand and appreciate the effects of working in hot and humid atmospheres.
  • Understand the hazards involved with confined spaces/vessel entry / emergencies and appreciate the problems of extricating casualties from confined spaces whilst wearing breathing apparatus.
  • Understand the causes and effects of stress in an emergency situation and identify how to recognize it and control it.
  • Fully understand and apply the principles and techniques of teamwork and leadership in order to function as an effective fire fighting unit.
  • Demonstrate confidence in their personal abilities to perform as an effective Site Emergency Response Team.
